One week before the halls of North Creek Elementary School will be filled with students, the halls were filled with students and their families.

Aug. 28 was the school’s open house, and newly hired Principal Kimberly Gillow was on hand to greet everybody.

“We really want students and families to feel comfortable before school starts,” said Gillow. “This gives them a chance to see their classrooms and put a face on their teachers.”

Gillow was most recently a principal in the Milan school district and before that taught in both the Dearborn and Dexter school districts. She also worked as a speech-language pathologist and a literacy intervention specialist. This is her 21st year in education.

Teachers were in attendance at the open house and had their class rooms set up for visitors. In the school cafeteria, families had the opportunity to learn about the Chelsea PTO, Girl Scouts, the Chelsea District Library and the Chelsea Aquatic Club.

Second-grader Abigail Riley said she’ll be happy to be back at school, while second-grader Tristan Stephens said that he’s excited for the start of school so that he can see his friends.

The first day of school is tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 4.
