Kick off the Memorial Holiday Weekend at the Chelsea Saturday Farmers Market.

The market runs from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and is located at Palmer Commons on Main Street.

This is the time to buy plants, and you’ll find a large variety of perennials, annuals, vegetables, and herbs. You’ll also find a colorful variety of hanging baskets.

Rhubarb is in season as well as spinach, asparagus, broccoli, lettuces and more.

You’ll also find beef, cheese, eggs, honey, and jam.

Choose from fresh baked breads, cakes, cookies and muffins as well as chocolates.

One of the artists at the Saturday market is Marilyn Weir, a life-long Chelsea resident who sells her original watercolor paintings. She loves to paint pictures of nature and animals, and she will also do commissions. Her husband Andy Weir offers hand crafted floating frames.

The MacDonald Brothers will provide live music during this Saturday’s market.

There is a new regional (Chelsea, Grass Lake, Manchester and Stockbridge) food assistance program to help get healthy market food on the tables of those in need. It’s aimed at folks who don’t quite meet SNAP criteria. Be sure to inquire at the market.

To learn more about what to expect each week at the farmers markets, visit the website at www.chelseafarmersmkt.org, visit the Chelsea Farmers Market Facebook page, or e-mail [email protected].oday, I find lots of my inspiration for my paintings when going for walks with my husband and our puppy and taking pictures of what we discover.
