Beach Middle School Cross County Teams Show Big Improvement

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Loren Thorburn for the information in this story.)

Chelsea Beach Middle School cross country teams competed at the Stockbridge Invitational at Stockbridge High School on Saturday, Oct. 1.  It was a beautiful day to run with cool temperatures on a flat, fast course.

The girls team placed 11th out of 12 teams.  All five girls set personal records by two to seven minutes, which is a very impressive improvement in time.

Audrey Garot had a break-out race and led the team with an overall place of 38th out of 128 runners. Eve Wagner and Tess Smith ran near each other much of the race and placed 49th and 55th, respectively. Peyton Skeans (96th) and Abby Krzysik (114th) really stepped up and pushed themselves to finish their races with big time improvements.

The boys ran very well, too with 13 out 16 runners setting PRs.  With many improvements in times, the boys team placed 2nd out of 15 teams, earning team medals for their performance.

Also, we had Wyeth Angus (3rd), Owen Thorburn (10th), Sam Clifton (13th), and Leo Alafita (24th) place in the top 25 out of 171 runners.  Finally, to name some of the big PRs (i.e., by almost a 1 minute or more) – Dante Costanzo, Dylan Hodges, Jarod Siefert, Simeon Strong, Cyrus Sparks-Jackson, and Liam Hurden.

We hope to continue to make improvements individually and as a team this upcoming week.

Our next race is the SEC Jamboree #2 hosted by Tecumseh on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
