Carson Rabbitt, Foster Thorburn and Team Michigan win Mid-East X-C championship

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Loren Thorburn for the information in this story.)

Carson Rabbitt and Foster Thorburn, two senior Chelsea High School country runners, competed for Team Michigan at the Mid-East Cross Country Championships held at Kettering, Ohio, on Saturday, Nov.17.

Four surrounding states (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan) each bring 12 senior girl and 12 senior boy runners to compete against each other for the gender titles as well as the combined championship trophy.

Team Michigan won both the boys and girl races with 32 points and 35 points, respectively, beating out strong performances from Indiana and Ohio.

Team Michigan won the overall combined team trophy too.

The Chelsea boys held their own against other very good runners from surrounding states in this special senior-only championship race.

Team Michigan for boys started toward the back of the pack and worked their way up in the field throughout the race, which is typical of Chelsea racing strategy.

Rabbitt ran a very solid race and put himself in the middle of the Team Michigan pack at the start of the race. He placed 24th overall out of 48 runners with a time of 16:34.8, which put him 9th out of 12 for Team Michigan.

Thorburn started in the back of the field and ended up finishing in 28th place and with a time of 16:40.5. (He was 10th out 12 on Team Michigan.)

The boys thought it was a rich experience and they definitely recommend other Chelsea senior cross country runners try out for Team Michigan in the future.
