Brahma Haus, the new Chelsea restaurant located at 312 N. Main St., has been open since early January, and continues to increase its hours and offerings.

The Mediterranean fusion restaurant is currently open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Owner and operator Michael Nelson hopes to increase that to seven days a week, but is still in the process of hiring staff.

He also hopes to offer delivery in the near future, as well as a Sunday breakfast.

Nelson recently hired Kasey Kroske to be Brahma Haus’ manager.

“I like the food concept here,” said Kroske. “We offer fast, fresh food, fresh sauces, and good breads. Managing is something I always wanted to do, and I’m happy to help Mike start a new concept.”

“Brahma Haus offers a quick meal that’s good,” said Nelson. “Everything can be made in five minutes or less.”

Nelson and his wife along with two young children live in Chelsea.

“I love this food and wanted to do something like this for a long time,” he said. “It seems to fit this town.”

Nelson describes Brahma Haus’ menu as ranging from Indian food to specialties from the United Kingdom, using the restaurant’s masala sauce, the house dish, as an example. Other choices include gyros, tabouli, hummus, falafels, caprese salads, and chorizo.

“We have an eclectic variety of food items,” he said.

Both Nelson and Kroske have extensive experience working at restaurants, mainly in Ann Arbor. Kroske grew up in Pinckney and is pleased to be working in Chelsea.

“Chelsea is cute and quaint, and I like the small-town feel,” she said. “Everyone is super nice.”

Nelson grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Michigan State University.

“I love Chelsea, which is why we moved here,” he said. “Having a business close to home is my end-all, be-all goal.”

Brahma Haus also offers a rotation of soups, sandwiches and salads. Nelson says he’s trying to be price sensitive.

The restaurant offers Puck’s soda, hot chocolate, and loose leaf teas. On Saturday, Feb. 9, the day of Chelsea’s Chocolate Extravaganza, Brahma Haus will feature a special menu with a variety of sweets and treats including house made brownies, ice cream, and make-your-own brownies and sundaes.

Nelson says, “We’re excited to be here and want people to join us for some good food.”
