‘Tis the season to be freezin’

Winter is coming… and so is Washtenaw County Parks’ Winter Fun Fest.

Celebrate the cold-weather season at parks and preserves throughout Washtenaw County. Whether you like warming up by a fireplace or tromping through freshly fallen snow, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Roll into the New Year with some exciting winter activities at Rolling Hills County Park. The Chamberlin Petting Zoo will be back for this year’s Snow Much Fun on Jan. 25. Or, snap a photo on a hunt for the elusive Rolling Hills Eddie the Yeti at Hunt for the Yeti on Feb. 9.

At Independence Lake County Park on Feb. 1, enjoy a fireside storytime, complete with a delicious cup of hot cocoa and story books galore. Sign up for the kid’s ice fishing clinic and learn about winter fishing and safety practices. Already an expert at ice fishing? Sign up and attend the annual Ice Fishing Derby, which will take place at Independence Lake County Park on Feb. 8.

Nelson Meade County Farm Park will be hosting the annual Ice Carving Festival on Feb. Watch college teams compete to create beautiful works of art in the park.  The adjacent Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center will be hosting the annual Daddy-Daughter Dance, Feb. 15. Dance the night away and create beautiful memories with the special little children in your life.

Interested in experiencing what nature has to offer during the winter season? Participate in naturalists-led programs like A Habitat Ramble where participants can take in the beauty of the winter season and enjoy a nice hike through the Leonard Preserve on Jan. 25.

For more information, visit www.washtenaw.org/parks or call 734-971-6337.

Registration is required for most Winter Fun Fest events and programs at www.parksonline.ewashtenaw.org.
