Following a public hearing where there were no comments, the Chelsea Planning Commission approved a special land use permit for Transition-2 (mixed use) zoning at 1513 S. Main Street.

The applicants proposed a new location for the Chelsea Animal Hospital, a small animal clinic, currently located at 1475 S. Main St. The new location is next door to the existing location, and the plan is to expand their professional services into both buildings.

Chris Rode, who purchased the building last summer with his wife Paula Rode, who owns the veterinary practice, explained to the planning commission that the hospital has outgrown its space, and sees this as an opportunity to transition into the new building while still using the current building for additional services.

In other action, following a public hearing where one member of the public spoke, the planning commission voted to table a discussion on the topic of rezoning 0.83 acres  (Parcels: #06-06-12-325-025; #06-06-12-325-026; #06-06-12-325-027) from R-3, Multiple-Family Residential, to R-2, Two-Family Residential. The parcels have frontage along Cleveland Street and W. Middle Street.

Planning Commission Chair Claire Robinson recused herself from the discussion because her family owns a unit in the condos next door to the parcels, which meant there were not enough commission members in attendance for a quorum. The topic was tabled until a date yet to be determined.
