Chelsea Area Festivals and Events (CAFE) awarded Chelsea High School senior, Katie LaRoy, a $500 scholarship at the Class Night on Friday, May 29.

The Chelsea Area Festivals and Events Scholarship was established this year to promote the future of fine arts by honoring the achievements of an outstanding graduating senior who intends to pursue a degree in performing or visual arts.

Ashley Rop, event coordinator, presented the award on behalf of the CAFE committee.

“It was an honor to present our first scholarship award to Katie, we wish her the best of luck in her future music studies,” commented Rop.

LaRoy will be attending Western Michigan University in the fall with a major in music therapy.

Chelsea Area Festivals and Events is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that coordinates “Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights”, “Sounds and Sights Festival”, and “Hometown Holidays.”

The mission of the organization is to enrich Chelsea, and the surrounding communities, by promoting the presentation of and participation in quality performing and visual arts throughout the year.
