Chelsea Area Players Youth Theater presents ‘Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.’ March 22-24

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Crystal Hayduk for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Area Players (CAP) Youth Theater will perform the annual spring musical, “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” on March 22-24.

Producer Shelley Wheaton, assisted by Tammy Peterson, has chosen a seasoned staff to lead the production. Brian Myers is directing the show, with Alexandra Moore in charge of the vocals. Christine Landis is providing choreography.

Auditions for the production were held in early January and a cast of 41 children were chosen. They range in age from third through eighth grade.

“Schoolhouse Rock” is about Tom, a young teacher who is nervous about starting his first job. In an attempt to settle his mind, he watches television; but characters representing his past and aspects of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to influence his students with fun and imagination, according to information about the production.

The music comes straight from the Emmy Award-winning cartoon series that aired on ABC-TV on Saturday mornings from 1973-1985.

Chelsea Area Players was first formed in 1972 and exists to “…enrich the educational and cultural life of the community, promote understanding and appreciation of an important art, provide worthwhile entertainment, encourage interest and active participation by the community in all phases of the theatre through dramatic productions and other related activities, and to foster and support the involvement of adolescents and young adults of the community in the dramatic arts.”
