The Chelsea School District Board of Education continues to move forward with the process of selecting a new superintendent of schools.
Ten educators submitted applications for the position. Applicants consisted of current superintendents, central office administrators, principals, and other educators. Additionally, the posting drew national attention with several candidates applying from outside of Michigan.
The board completed a thorough review of the applications and has invited three educators to be interviewed.
The interviews will be held on Monday, July 11 and Tuesday, July 12. Interviews will take place at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington St. Those interested are welcome to attend.
The interview schedule is as follows:
Monday, July 11
6:00 pm – Justin Ralston, principal, Theodore Roosevelt High School, Washington, D.C. Public Schools
7:30 pm – Bradley Paddock, executive manager of human resources, Walled Lake Consolidated Schools
Tuesday, July 12
6:00 pm – Michael Kapolka, assistant superintendent of human resources, Wayne-Westland Community Schools
“We believe there are quality candidates that may meet our needs and expectations and are pleased with the applicant pool, including several candidates from across the country, and interest demonstrated in our school district,” said Board President Jason Eyster.
“We look forward to engaging with the candidates via the interview process to learn about their leadership abilities and what each has to offer our students, staff, and community. The board continues to appreciate the input from the public and encourages people to attend the interviews. It is our hope to have a new superintendent in place in early August,” he said.
The superintendent search became necessary as Dr. Julie Helber announced her retirement, after serving the district admirably for six years. Helber’s retirement is effective at the end of July.
The process has been facilitated by the Michigan Leadership Institute.
