The Chelsea boys Golf Team had a busy week, battling tough opponents and tough weather.

On Monday, April 20, the Bulldogs traveled to Lake Forest Golf Course, to take on two Ann Arbor Teams, Huron and Skyline.

It was very cold, with some rain, and 20 to 25 mph winds.  Huron shot an incredible score of 163, followed by Skyline at 170, and Chelsea with 173. “I didn’t think the score of 173 was too bad for the conditions, but obviously it wasn’t quite good enough,” said Coach Joe Ewald.

Scoring for Chelsea was Ben Otto with a 40, Jacob Hauser shot 43, and JJ Duncan, Sean Lyons, and Lucas Derosia all had 45. The highlight of the day was the good scores from our JV squad, as they won both of their matches.

On Wednesday, April 22, the Bulldogs hosted Tecumseh at Inverness CC.  Once again cold (that dipped down into the 30s) and wind were the order of the day.

This time Chelsea pulled out the victory by a score of 171 to 182. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Ben Otto with a 41, Sean Lyons and Lucas Derosia each had a 43, and Kurt Jolly and Cross Lucas both shot 44s.  The JV squad won their match by 15 shots.

On Saturday, April 25, Chelsea traveled to Eldorado Golf Course for the Mason Invitational.  It was a small event, but unique in the fact that all teams also brought a JV team to the tournament.  Mason won in a 5th man tie-breaker over Dewitt, as both Teams posted 322.  Chelsea was right behind with 324.

“This is the 2nd time out of the last three Invitationals that we have been just a stroke or two from winning the event,” the coach said, adding, “Year after year, Dewitt is one of the elite teams in Division 2. This year, I would consider both Dewitt and Mason as top 10 teams in Division 2, so we are close, but we just have to keep getting better.”

Leading the way for Chelsea was Ben Otto with a 79, JJ Duncan and Jacob Hauser were next on the board with a pair of 81s, and Zach McKinley had an 83.

Our JV squad continued to show the depth we have on this team, as they posted a fine score of 346, which would have been a pretty good varsity score for us over the past couple of years.
