Chelsea City Council Hears Presentation for ADA Improvements at Parks

Chelsea City Council was privy to a presentation about the ADA (American Disabilities Act) as it pertains to four Chelsea parks during council’s July 1 meeting.

Midwestern Consulting provided council with an action plan for providing Pierce Park, Veteran’s Park, Timbertown, and Palmer Commons with park improvements as it pertains to ADA federal guidelines. The goals of the guidelines are to ensure safety, provide an equitable experience for all users, and to prevent liability.

Council members also heard from Sage Solutions, the human resources consulting organization that is currently working with the City of Chelsea on a strategic plan.

Council approved (George Merkel absent) the purchase of Tasers for the Chelsea Police Department for a total cost of $49,058.60.

In other action, a proposal by Midwestern Consulting for surveying and design work for Taylor Lane sidewalk improvements was approved based on an estimate of $17,500. for time and materials.

Included in the consent agenda was the approval of an Eisenhower Drive block party permit for July 20 from 1:00-9:30 p.m. to block off Eisenhower Drive from Village Place Drive to Taylor Street.

Council members authorized the city’s water department to purchase water meters and meter horns for a cost of $45,600 plus shipping, as well as to purchase 260 water meters for a cost of $110,100, plus shipping.

A motion to approve the invoice from Velocity Master Plumbing for $5,850 was approved. So was an agreement with Kennedy Industries to build a control panel and connect it to SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) integration for $453,000.

In other action, city council approved the purchase of power poles for Chelsea’s electric department from Border State for $16,924.74 and also approved a service agreement with Chelsea Painting & Carpentry for the painting of the exterior of the electric department building for $11,400.

Chelsea City Council meets next on Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m.
