Chelsea City Council reviews some of its key property

At a recent visioning session, the Chelsea City Council and staff took a look at the state of its property ownership.

On Feb. 5, Chelsea City Manager John Hanifan told the City Council that the sale of the Buchanon property to Chelsea Milling Company was complete and the city was soliciting proposals to sell the former Chelsea Police Department building at 104 East Middle Street.

“We’re making progress,” Hanifan said, in looking for a viable purchaser for the building.

He said the city should also start looking at the future of a large tract of land that’s the current home of the Public Works and Electric departments. The city owns about 9 or 10 acres on both the north and south sides of Mill Creek. The public works department has several pole barns on the property.

The council also discussed the history and possible uses for a piece of property near the Purple Rose Theatre known as “the Sledding Hill.”

  1. There is a great need for a dog park in Chelsea. Timber town site has great open spaces that could be fenced ata low cost.
Many people use it now in the winter as a place to let there dogs run off leash.
