The Chelsea Rotary Foundation was given unanimous support by the Chelsea City Council Monday night, Jan. 5, for a resolution that recognizes the group as a nonprofit.
This will enable the civic organization to apply for a charitable gaming license for its annual Cash Bash, which is historically held in March.
Plans are underway for the annual fundraiser says Lorna Tackwell, which could include a raffle, silent auctions and other events as part of the dinner.
The Chelsea Rotary Foundation raises funds for “educational and charitable purposes for students and teachers” and provides support to other charitable organizations involved with the eradication of polio and other diseases, according to information supplied to the City Council.
In addition, according to the foundation’s application, the group provides safe playgrounds, walkways and transportation in the city and throughout the Chelsea School District as well as “supporting other charitable organizations in their efforts to lesson the effects of illiteracy and emotional trauma in Chelsea and Western Washtenaw County.”
