The Chelsea City Council will have a new member when it meets for the first time in 2013 on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

In its first order of business, Clerk Terri Royal will swear-in Dustin Suntheimer as the City Council’s newest member. He replaces Kent Martinez-Kratz, who was elected as a County Commissioner in November, 2012.

Also on the agenda is the approval of a number of budget amendments that include:

*A reduction of $56,200 in the cash fund balance in the general fund and a $25,000 reduction in the major street Fund cash balance.

*The capital projects fund will see a $160,000 reduction for expenses associated with the completion of the Municipal Building.

*The street improvement fund will see a $21,400 increase and the municipal building fund will see an increase of $174,000 thanks to the sale of the Buchanon Street building.

*The electric fund will have a about $6,000 increase in its cash fund balance.

*The wastewater fund had a reduction of $20,557 in its fund cash.

*The water fund had an increase of $54,974 in its fund cash balance.

The City Council is also expected to vote on the 2013 poverty/hardship guidelines. The hardship income values are based on the income restrictions adopted by the Chelsea School District for the 2012/2013 school year. The guidelines will be posted on the city’s website once they have been approved.

The City Council is also expected to discuss liaison and delegate positions to various boards and commissions and set a date for its annual visioning session.

City Council meetings begin at 7 p.m. at the new Police Building.
