Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary donates $20,000 to new cancer center

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Shirley Hoppe for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $20,000 toward the new Comprehensive Cancer Center at a volunteer’s holiday dinner.

The check was presented to Nancy Graebner, Chelsea Community Hospital president and CEO, on Dec. 12.

The presentation was made by Donations Chairperson Jeanette Turner on behalf of the Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary and represents the first annual installment of the $100,000 pledge toward the Cancer Center made by the auxiliary.

The remaining installments will be made over the next four years.

Funds were raised by sales at the hospital volunteers’ Arbor Nook Gift Shop, the Spring and Fall Bazaars and fundraisers supported by volunteers, hospital employees and the community throughout the year.

In her acceptance remarks, Graebner expressed her appreciation for the support of so many and said “the center will offer new hope in Chelsea for cancer services and will serve all families and friends in this community”.

The North Creek Fiddlers provided fun and music for the approximately 135 members and guests who attended the holiday dinner.

Renovations to the existing hospital building to accommodate the new cancer center will begin in January.  In mid-February the Woodland Entrance will be closed, and access to the hospital will be through the main Atrium entrance.
