(Chelsea Update would like to thank Jane Pacheco for the information in this story.)

Are you excited about local foods?

Want to join others promoting healthy eating?

Love supporting local food businesses and vendors?

Chelsea Community Kitchen focuses on educating, informing, and supporting members of our regional community to create a healthy, local and sustainable food culture.

The demos at the two Farmer’s Markets in Chelsea and classes at the Senior Center attract wide interest and participation.  The August theme is Heart Healthy with several veteran CCK instructors leading.  Don’t miss these August dates and more in September:

Chelsea Senior Center:  Aug. 18, noon in cafeteria, register by calling 475-9242

Chelsea Farmers Market:  Aug. 23, 9-11 a.m. Main Street downtown

Bushel Basket Market:  Aug. 27, 3-5 p.m., Chelsea/UM Family Medicine parking lot

Chelsea Community Kitchen is devoted to creating a healthy, local, and sustainable food culture through classroom and real-world education.

The group is now accepting applications to be on its Board of Directors to assist in this mission.

Find out how you can get involved and use your special skills by contacting then at [email protected].

Board meetings are monthly with next one scheduled for Sept. 9.  Save The Date for CCK’s Annual Meeting on Oct. 14, a time for all to learn about the organization (plus there will be some wonderful food).

Board members help plan, organize, and support great activities like the annual Kids Cooking Camp. This year’s camp had record participation. Five fun days lead by Judy Radant and Courtney Stinson allowed kids in grades 1-3 and 4-6 opportunities to learn safe food practices, kitchen techniques, and fun recipes. Always something new each day. This is the third year the camp has been held, but the first working in partnership with Chelsea Community Education.

See www.chelseacommunitykitchen.org for more details about programs.  CCK works in cooperation with other community groups to achieve their goals. Classes also planned in conjunction with Faith in Action and their signature Expert Series that gives in depth look at special techniques.
