Chelsea District Library now offers free digital magazine subscription service

Zinio library graphicChelsea District Library has added digital magazines to its online digital collection.

The service, launched May 1, is offered through a program called Zinio For Libraries, which recreates each magazine page-for-page, including high quality, full-color pictures, while adding interactive components such as key word searches, hyperlinks, and audio and video components.

It’s free to Chelsea District Library account holders and allows them to download magazines to their computer or favorite digital device from the Library website.

“Clearly digital format is becoming more and more popular amongst our patrons,” says Bill Harmer, Chelsea District Library director in a press release.

“In 2010, when we first began offering e-books and audiobooks, circulation was about 2,300,” he said, adding, “It has doubled almost every year since then and we expect that trend to continue upward.”

He says it will not only give our patrons convenient, digital access to magazines but also save them the cost of purchasing their own subscriptions.

“The service is very easy to use and the magazine selection is good,” says Ron Andrews, Chelsea District technology librarian. “I’ve already used the service to download my favorite magazines for a recent trip to DC.”

Not only does Zinio make reading magazines convenient and portable, there are no limits, due dates or renewals for downloaded editions.  The service is available 24-7 and once downloaded, the magazines can then be enjoyed offline at the reader’s convenience.

The collection has a wide range of subjects that will appeal to children, hobbyists, newshounds, families and individual tastes.

Titles include Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Seventeen, ESPN, Gamemaster, House Beautiful, and PC Magazine, just to name a few.

To access Zinio e-magazines, library card holders can click here or click on the Zinio button on the Chelsea District Library homepage.
