Chelsea Equestrian Team competing in districts

The Chelsea Equestrian Team had its first meet on Saturday, Sept. 7 and following the meet the team was in first place in the MIHA District 4, Division A standings.

The last two meets of the season, the districts, are this weekend at the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason.

The top two schools in each division advance to regionals.

At the first meet every member scored points for the team. Chelsea received 221 points, while Leslie had 196 points, St. Johns finished with 143 points and Haslett had 51 points.

The Chelsea team consists of 12 riders who entered 63 classes, and individual riders may enter eight classes. The riders compete in Western, Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, and Contesting.

This year the members of the Chelsea High School Equestrian Team are

Seniors – Weston Barnes and Annika Corazzol

Juniors – Grant Allen, Jacob Lahti, Ciara Lesko, and Tony Nichol

Sophmores – Jordan Hirst and Taylor Schrock

Freshman – Madalyn Allen, Elsa Ford, Michaela Maynard and Olivia Smyth.

The coaches are – Lucy Heimerdinger, Janes Barnes, Julie Agar, Lynn Lesko and Tonya Heimerdinger.

“I am so proud of each member,” Lucy Heimerdinger said in an email. “These riders (and their parents) work hard and it shows.”

She said, “The team did a fantastic job. You have to love what you do and have fun with it to be successful and that is what this team did.”
