Chelsea Fair Kitchen looking for volunteers

Last year, the Service Center dining room was repainted and new lighting was installed making the room look larger and brighter. During fair, there will of course be flowers on the tables.

During the 80th edition of the Chelsea Community Fair from Aug. 22-26, visitors will once again be treated to the yummy meals from Ginny and Shelley Wheaton at the restaurant located inside the air conditioned Service Center building where the fair office is located.

If you’ve not been there before, look for the large building that’s surrounded by the beautiful flowers at the front of the fairgrounds.

It takes about 25 people to keep everything running smoothly during the week and the Wheatons are looking for volunteers to assist them in the kitchen as well as in the dining room. It would make a great service project for a community group and a fun way to see folks you don’t run into much during the year — because fair is always a place where old friends return to Chelsea and gather.

“We are hoping people will be willing to volunteer for even one shift,” Shelley Wheaton says, so please call 475-0792 or 720-317-9295 and offer a helping hand.

Jobs include everything from scooping Mac and cheese, to making Sloppy Joe’s, serving people and picking up trays. Folks can volunteer for a few hours, a shift or a whole day.

They will provide an a la carte breakfast from 7 a.m.-10:30 a.m. during which diners will have a choice of eggs cooked to your liking or French toast or pancakes. There will be sausage, bacon or biscuits and gravy to choose from as well.

Lunch is served beginning at 11 a.m. and dinner specials start at 4 p.m.

Dinner, as well as the daily items like hamburgers or cheeseburgers, hotdogs or grilled cheese are served until 8:30 p.m., but be sure to get there early because you don’t want to miss out on the daily dinner specials.

The daily lunch menu includes a choice of grilled cheese, mac and cheese, grilled hotdogs or hamburgers and French fries. Or perhaps you’d prefer a tuna or egg sandwich on a croissant. And, chips and cookies, and cold drinks and water, too.

Below is this year’s menu.
