eggs(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bobby H. Maldonado for the information in this story.)

St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea announced recently that its Chelsea Farmers Market is partnering with local community groups and farmers markets in Manchester, Grass Lake and Stockbridge to offer a Mobile Winter Farmers Market.

Through this new partnership, these communities will gain access to fresh, locally grown food from November through April.

Customers may order a pre-made “share” or “basket” of products compiled from different Chelsea Farmers Market vendors. Each basket costs $20 or $40, are pre-assembled and include fresh vegetables and greens, baked goods, and specialty items such as eggs, coffee or honey.

For times and locations for the Mobile Winter Farmers Market or to submit an order, please visit www.chelseafarmersmkt.org or call 616-734-9123.

The Mobile Winter Market also participates in food assistance programs.  Customers using SNAP/Bridge cards may use their SNAP dollars to purchase a food basket for half price.

Through the Double Up Food Bucks Program, the Mobile Winter Farmers Market is also able to offer double the amount of produce. Customers who spend $10 off their Bridge card may receive a $20 value basket, or spend $20 for the $40 value basket.

Other payment options include cash or check at the time of pickup, or a credit card online. All proceeds go to the farmers and vendors.

The Mobile Winter Farmers Market is partnering with the following local community groups:

  • Stockbridge: Community Outreach and the First Presbyterian Church of Stockbridge
  • Grass Lake: Senior Center and Township Offices
  • Manchester: Community Resource Center

Through April 15, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea also holds a winter farmers market inside the Washington Street Education Center, located at 500 Washington St.

The market is held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Chelsea Farmers Market is a program of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea. It is sponsored by the hospital and The Chelsea Friends and Family Wellness Foundation, and is a member of the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and The Five Healthy Towns.
