Chelsea Freshman Football Drops Fowlerville, 19-6

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Chris Orlandi for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea freshmen football team (3-3) earned a hard fought victory at Fowlerville High School Thursday night, 19-6.

The Bulldogs scored on their opening drive, with QB Brady McKale finding Hunter Burk on a screen pass that went for a 47-yd TD.  Later in the 1st quarter, Luke Cavanaugh intercepted a Gladiator pass and returned it 40 yards for another Bulldog TD.

After a great punt by Cody Kennard in the 2nd quarter, Chelsea’s defense forced Fowlerville to punt out of their own endzone. Chelsea took over with great field position and Burk scored again on a 9-yd run. The Bulldog defense handled the rest.

Chelsea’s defense was outstanding all night long. On the defensive line, Kaiden Trevino had a few tackles for loss and recovered a fumble. He forced the Fowlerville QB out of the game in the 2nd quarter on an excellent pass rush.  Inside linebacker Nathan Van Orman and safety Joshua Doyle each made big plays and had their best games of the season. Alex Venegas saw his first game action of the year and had some big plays as well.

Our schedule gets a bit tougher now. This was a great test on the road and now we’ll see what we’re made of against competition from East Lansing next week.
