The Chelsea freshman football team lost for the first time against Adrian on Thursday, 32-19.

Chelsea led 13-12 late in the first half before giving up two late touchdowns to make the score 24-13.  With 10:00 to go in the game, Chelsea had the ball, down 24-19, but couldn’t convert on a fourth down when they were looking to take the lead. From there, Adrian drove down the field and scored a touchdown to put the game away.

“Adrian is a really talented team,” said coach Dennis Strzyzewski. “They have so much speed, and they play their defensive schemes very well.  I thought our guys hung in there pretty well. They competed hard, and they showed a willingness to fight through adversity.”

Some of our guys played more snaps in this game than they ever had, the coach said.

Adrian had eight guys who played both ways the whole game, and “we needed to try to match their size and athleticism at times by giving kids time on both sides of the ball,” he said.

“I thought Blake Engler, Jeret Hirst, Daniel Bertoni, and Thomas Steele handled the workload really well,” Stryzewski said.
