The Chelsea girls Tennis Team tied Mason 4-4 on April 1.
Winning for Chelsea was Anna Argento at 4 singles, Sam Jabara/Erin Koch at 1 doubles, Hannah Moore and Hannah Schwippert at 2 doubles, Joy McCarthy/Carrie Williams at 3 doubles.
Williams and McCarthy fought back after losing the 1st set in a tiebreak and took the last two sets 6-1, 6-2.
“I saw a lot of resilience from both of them, it’s tough to lose a tight first set and then come back and dominate the last two sets but that’s what they accomplished,” Coach Matt Pedlow said, adding, “Mason is a very, very good team. Their top 3 singles flights are some of the best that we will see this season, I was very impressed with their 1 singles player. She’s not only a great player but she showed great sportsmanship throughout.”
Mackenzie Benning played a great match at 2 singles but ran into a very strong player, the coach said. Benning tried to move her around the court as much as possible but was overpowered throughout the match.
“The new duo of Moore/Schwippert is going to turn into a very formidable team. They have only played together twice, and they already are looking like a team that has played together for years. Schwippert played great in the backcourt and Moore played a brilliant match at the net,” the coach said.
