Chelsea Girls Track and Field results from Bath Invitational on May 10

The Chelsea Girl’s Track and Field Team competed in a very difficult Bath Invitational on Friday evening.

Once again, the weather was not very cooperative, but the girls had a strong showing, placing 3rd in the “large schools” division and 6th overall of the 17 teams participating, according to Shane Rodriguez, girls’ coach.

“Once again, we were led by Grace Sauers with a solid individual performance in the 300 hurdles, finishing second,” the coach said.

Talia Dyerly was very good in the pole vault, taking 4th place, and Dana Porter had a breakthrough performance in the mile, he said.

“All four relays placed, which is awesome,” Roriguez said.

The sprinter relay members of Amanda Simich, Vicki Collins, Laura McGrath, and Grace Sauers are looking to get into great position to place high at the regional, he said.

“Of special note, the 4×800 relay team is looking very good. These mid-distance girls, McKenna Lucas, Karana Wickens, Sofi Gonzalez, and Maria Osentoski, are really showing a ton of improvement and have their eyes set on a high regional finish as well,” he said.

“I would like to thank all the coaches and parents for the support and help thus far,” the coach said, adding, “It is amazing to see the girls perform week in and week out.”

There is a final JV meet Wednesday at Ann Arbor Huron for those not going to the regional on Friday, and the regional also will take place on Friday at Livonia Ladywood High School.

The individuals and relay teams that place in the top two or hit the automatic qualifying standards will represent Chelsea at the MHSAA state championship on June 1 in Grand Rapids.
