It was a busy week for the Chelsea Golf Team, as they got league play started with a couple of SEC Matches.
The first was at Leslie Park, on Monday April 24, for a match with Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Pioneer.
Both teams have a few good players, but I thought with our depth we could keep it competitive said coach Joe Ewald.
Both of the Ann Arbor schools played very well, and we didn’t quite play our best.
Pioneer was the low score at 159, Huron was 161, and Chelsea came in at 168.
Scoring for Chelsea was Brendan Doyle with a 40, followed by Lucas Derosia with a 41, and both Kurt Jolly and Tyler Emmert shot a 44.
On Wednesday, April 25, Chelsea hosted Monroe and Saline at Reddeman Farms. This time the Bulldogs came away with 2 wins in very windy conditions. Lucas Derosia, Kurt Jolly, Ben Brannon and Tyler Emmert all shot 43, for a total of 172, besting Saline’s total of 180, and Monroe’s 184.
Saline historically has been the best program on either side of the SEC, Ewald said. This may not be the strongest Saline Team, but we will take a win over them anytime we can get it, the coach said.
On Thursday, April 27, the Bulldogs traveled to Bedford Valley, to compete in the Gull Lake Invitational. Chelsea placed 9th out of 15 teams, in extremely windy conditions. It was one of those days that all of the team scores were bunched up, and if we could have just saved a shot or 2 apiece, we could have moved up 5 or 6 spots, Ewald said.
Lucas Derosia was low for the Bulldogs with an 81, Kurt Jolly was next with an 86, Preston Ewald had an 89, and Tim Lyons shot a 92.
