Chelsea High School girls water polo game recap

The Chelsea High School Girls Water Polo team competed in a weekend tournament last weekend logged a victory over Rockford 10 -2 last weekend.

Maddie Doman (3), Kat Haroney (3), Kaylin Zocharski (1), Maria Elie (2) and Emmah Boquette (1) scored goals.

“All of the team was able to play and did a fantastic job,” said coach Melissa McGuire.

The Bulldogs downed Grand Haven, 13-9, and among those scoring goals were Doman (5) and Elie (6). “Great game where Chelsea led the whole game and again the whole team was able to play,” he said.

In the next game, Zeeland defeated Chelsea, 5-3, in a shootout. Goals by Doman (2) , Boquette (1).

“Chelsea was up until the last quarter, but Zeeland caught up and ended up tying the game,” the coach said, adding, “The game went into a shoot-out with Catherine Wellman in goal and Maria Elie, Maddie Doman and Kaylin Zocharski shooting to make a 5-meter shot.”

Chelsea came up short, but it was a great effort all around, McGuire said.

In the fourth game against Grandville, Chelsea won  9-6. Goals were scored by Doman (2), Elie (4) , Zocharski (1) and Bouquette (2).

“While the girls were exhausted from the three previous games, they worked hard to stay ahead the entire game,” the coach said.

Catherine Wellman was in goal the whole tournament and made 5 saves in this game.

“Incredible effort by the whole team,” the coach said.

On April 28, the Bulldogs downed Mason, 8-3, with goals scored by Doman (3) and Ellie (5).

The team plays its next two games at home: Saline on May 5 and East Lansing on May 6. Both games takes place at the Beach Middle School pool beginning at 6 p.m.
