Chelsea Hospital Experts Discuss Benefits of Rock Me Mama Support Group

(Recently, the Chelsea Update spoke with Kathryn Walz, LMSW, CPC, and Elizabeth Block, MD, facilitators of Chelsea Hospital’s Rock Me Mama Support Group. Walz, a social worker and behavioral health navigator who specializes in connecting people with resources; and Block, a physician who specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry, combine their expertise to support new mothers of infants in a virtual setting support group.)

This discussion was a collaboration of the two experts who shared the benefits of Chelsea Hospital’s Rock Me Mama Support Group.

Chelsea Update: What is the Rock Me Mama Support Group and its purpose?

Group Facilitators: This group is about new moms of infants coming together to support each other. It’s really just providing a safe space for moms to ask questions of us and each other with a focus on health and well-being. It’s really convenient. In this group setting, moms have access to a lot of support. They’ll speak with a physician, a social worker and other moms, just like them, in their community.

Chelsea Update: How can the Rock Me Mama Support Group help me?

Group Facilitators: If you’re a new mother, this group can help connect you with other moms in your community and reduce feelings of isolation. This is a great place to talk about anything related to being a new mom – it’s up to you. There are lots of resources out there, but sometimes they can be hard to find. We can help with that, too.

Chelsea Update: What should I expect if I attend a meeting?

Group Facilitators: Each group meeting is designed to have a short, educational topic to support overall health and wellness and then it opens up for discussion. Since we meet virtually, it’s a very casual atmosphere from your home. You’re welcome to share, ask questions or just absorb the experience.

Chelsea Update: Who should attend the Rock Me Mama Support Group?

Group Facilitators: Moms of infants are invited. Your little one can join, too. Whatever works best for you!

Chelsea Update: Is there a fee to attend and participate?

Group Facilitators: No, the Rock Me Mama Support Group is free. Chelsea Hospital aims to be your most trusted health partner for life. We offer this group to nurture mothers and families with compassionate care and guidance.

Chelsea Update: When, where and how long are the meetings?

Group Facilitators: The Rock Me Mama Support Group meets on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The meetings are ongoing and are hosted weekly. You can join the group when it works for you. Since meetings are held virtually, you can join from wherever you are.
