Chelsea Spring Expo is on Saturday, April 13, at the Chelsea Senior Center, and the Chelsea Human Rights Commission will have a table where visitors can learn more about the commission.
That was discussed at the HRC’s April 3 meeting.
The HRC’s 2024 Plan was accepted by Chelsea City Council last month. Internal activities include:
- continuing to recruit and orient new members
- reviewing Chelsea’s Non-Discrimination Ordinance and considering possible revisions
- discussing ways the HRC might contribute to strengthening police/community relations and communications
- initiating discussion of establishing a separate HRC social media presence under the purview of the city.
External activities include:
- continuing to identify and recommend training and education resources for community members
- exploring the possibility of convening a cross-community meeting or retreat of HRCs and related community groups from neighboring communities
- taking advantage of opportunities to raise awareness for the functions and activities of the HRC by participating in community events like the Spring Expo.
Members of the HRC also talked about creating a letter to Realtors to remind them about what the HRC does. April is Fair Housing Month.
The next HRC meeting will be on Wednesday, May 1, at 7 p.m.
