The Chelsea junior varsity boys basketball team wrapped up its season with three home-court victories last week, putting the finishing touches on a stellar 19-1 campaign.
The Bulldogs conclude their season on a 15-game winning streak.
The week started with a 69-46 win over River Rouge on Monday, followed by a 96-41 rout of Ypsilanti on Tuesday and capped with a 58-51 rivalry victory over Dexter on Friday.
Against Dexter, the Bulldogs found themselves in an unusual position — in a tight game late in the fourth quarter. The Dreadnaughts rallied to trim what had been a double-digit deficit for most of the contest to just three points. Buck Allen (14 points) and Nick Martin (13 points) sealed the win from the free-throw line in the final 35 seconds.
Becket Boos led Chelsea with 20 points.
There were no similar threats against Ypsilanti. Martin and Boos scored 11 points apiece in the first quarter to help the Bulldogs jump out to a quick 20-point lead. That advantage grew to 40 by early in the fourth quarter, enacting the MHSAA mercy-rule running clock.
Boos finished with 27 points, Martin 25 points and Allen 15 points against the Grizzlies. Wyatt Matusik added seven points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.
Five different players reached double-digit scoring totals against River Rouge: Allen (16), Boos (14), Luke Cavanaugh (13), Martin (12) and Kevin Scott (12).
