Last Monday, Chelsea Kiwanis Club members heard from Shawn Personke and Rick Frankhart from Timbertown Reimagined.
In 1997, the Dana Corporation had donated some land to the city next to its factory, and community members saw a need for a play structure in the park.
After careful planning, construction took less than one week. Many folks from Chelsea and the surrounding area pitched in with their time and tools to build the structure. With only some remodeling about 10 years ago, it has held up well, but could use some refurbishment.
New items planned are made from a high density polymer, which is colorful, durable and safer for children.
Efforts are now underway get citizens and groups involved again to freshen up and add the new equipment for families to enjoy. Several groups have already committed to lend their time and talents and/or to purchase one of the new play possibilities. For example, Gestamp has agreed to re-roof the structure, and Heydlauff’s will purchase one of the storefronts.

Mary Randolph from the Chelsea Area Garden Club made a presentation at the meeting to purchase one of the new pieces of equipment. Kiwanis will also add a piece called Step Hops, which promotes balance and coordination during imaginative play.
