Chelsea Kiwanis Club Learns ‘How to Laugh Your Way to Well Being’

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard a presentation from Gordon Schleicher. His subject was “Laugh Your Way To Well Being.”

He reminded club members that laughter has been scientifically proven to improve health in several ways:
* Lowers stress
* Boosts memory
* Aids psychological well being
* Raises dopamine levels
* Helps deepen relationships
* Facilitates learning
* Improves resiliency
* Helps us feel connected
* Makes a person more interesting to others

Schleicher then told several jokes related to the pandemic to lighten what has been a not very humorous year. Luckily, there are a lot of virus jokes out there. It’s a pundemic. Many people are homebound. If there is a baby boom nine months from now, by 2033 there will be a whole bunch of quaranteens.

Then, as promised, each member and guest was asked to laugh their best laugh, one at a time. This exercise proved to put a smile on everyone’s face as we listened to a wide variety of styles of laughter, from chuckles to guffaws.

The club still has delicious gourmet nuts available for sale for $25. Please consider adding this nutritious snack for binge watching on Netflix, for this year’s Super Bowl, or for your Valentine.

Any Kiwanian can get some delivered to you, or you can order some on our Facebook page. Your purchase helps our club support many local groups, especially those focused on children’s development.
