Last Monday, Chelsea Kiwanis heard from Joan Gaughan, representing the Peacemaker Award. She had seen the recent tragic results from bullying, and wanted to do something, especially since she suffered herself as a young person. She felt that rewarding young people who were brave enough to stand up to a bully would embolden others to resist the behavior which is so hurtful.

She encourages community members and groups to work with schools to identify and honor students who have courageously taken steps to end bullying rather than turning a blind eye.

The Peacemaker Award is already being given to students who have practiced kindness and courage, (see Chelsea Update article June 11).
