(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)
Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear from Nancy Paul, executive director of Faith in Action, who will update them about the organization’s efforts to support those in need in the community.
Last Monday, members from three of the Kiwanis family clubs who attended the annual Service Leadership Dinner to acknowledge and appreciate the service they perform each year.
The current officers of St. Louis Center’s Aktion Club joined us. They talked about some of the social and the service activities they have participated in, and some of the events coming up.
Last year, members created Christmas cards to sell as a fundraiser. Repeating what happened the previous year, the Chelsea Kiwanis Foundation was presented with a check representing the profits from their card sales.
This year’s amount was $1,000. They wanted the money to be used to support the Kiwanis Eliminate Project whereby UNICEF vaccinates women against neonatal and maternal tetanus.
Members of Chelsea High School Key Club also joined the Kiwanis Club. They have worked with us judging costumes at the Kid’s Fair Parade and at the Kiwanis Halloween party at Cole Funeral Chapel.
They also joined us to rake leaves for seniors. They have been bowling and watching a movie with students from Independence Hall. They collected 360 items for Faith in Action, and are currently collecting unwanted food items in the high school cafeteria that would ordinarily end up in a landfill.
Coming up this spring, Aktion Club and Kiwanians will assist Key Club members as they conduct the Easter Egg Hunt at CRC.
The third Kiwanis family club is University of Michigan Circle K. They have about 133 members and perform service all around the Ann Arbor area. Their goal is to accomplish 11,000 hours of service this school year.
Chelsea Kiwanis meets each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.
Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to enjoy our speakers and learn about Kiwanis.
