The Chelsea Bulldogs Lacrosse teams kicked off their 2019 season on Wednesday hosting the Trojans from East Lansing.

The JV team was up first and came out with a 16-0 victory.

Sophomore Lucas King started off the scoring just over 3 minutes into the game.  Lax newcomer Logan Vaughn scored the next two goals and finished with four goals on the night.

Sophomore attackmen Cam Weatherwax and Hayden Hoffman played very solid games and both had multiple goals.

The defense led by sophomore Nick Tolliver played very well along with goal keeper Brad Fisher not letting in any goals.

“It was a team victory, everyone played hard and contributed.  We have a lot of things to work on but overall a solid effort offensively and defensively,” said coach Jim Breining.

Next up for the JV squad is a home match against Ann Arbor Skyline on Friday, April 5.

The varsity team started slow and were quickly down 2-0 before junior Riley Sumner fired a great left-handed shot with 3:39 left in the first period for Chelsea’s first score.

Sophomore Tyler Wallgren tied it up at the end of the 1st quarter. The Bulldogs scored five in the 2nd quarter on a goal from junior Aiden Boote and two each from junior Kyle Mitchell and senior captain Cam Breining. Finally settling in late in the second quarter, the Dogs continued that intensity in the 3rd quarter taking control of the game.

The defense led by senior captains Jake Seitz and Nic Brough held the Trojans to only 1 goal in the 2nd half.  Senior goal keeper Anthony Gervais played a solid game in net.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by Breining 7 goals, Mitchell 3 goals and 1 assist, Riley and Mitchell Sumner 1 goal each, junior Boote 1 goal and 1 assist.  Rounding out the scoring was speedy senior midfielder Zach Cooley with 3 assists.

Up next for the varsity squad is a home match with Brighton on Wednesday, April 3.
