The back-to-school rush means it’s also time for National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Chelsea District Library invites you to sign-up for a library card and discover how a single card can open the door to endless opportunities.
Did you know that in addition to books, audiobooks, dvds, and cds, CDL cardholders can also check out giant lawn games, a metal detector, Kindles, and even a ukulele? The library also offers classes, job resources, homework help, streaming media, and cultural events. CDL connects our community to information, inspiration, and each other.
This year’s theme, “One Card, Endless Possibilities,” is a reminder that libraries are for everyone—no matter your age, background, or goals. Whether you’re diving into a new hobby, searching for your next great read, brushing up on tech skills, or helping your child succeed in school, it all starts with a library card.
At Chelsea District Library, you’ll find:
- The Ingenuity Engine—CDL’s makerspace is filled with equipment and supplies to help you create and learn. The Engine’s tools include a laser engraver and cutter; a 3D printer; a heat press for t-shirts, mugs, and more; a CNC router for wood engraving; vinyl cutters; a conversion station for digitizing photo negatives and older tech formats such as VHS tapes; and so much more.
- The CDL Garage—a collection of unusual items available to help our patrons Create, Design, and Learn in a hands-on way. From an automobile code reader to a microscope, the garage is full of useful items for CDL patrons to borrow.
- Programs and events for all ages—CDL librarians plan many hours of programming each month—from storytimes and book clubs to crafting classes and writing workshops.
- CDL’s Mobile Library, Mobee—Can’t make it into the library? CDL provides outreach services to local schools, daycare facilities, senior living communities, and more! Mobee expands access to the library’s materials, staff, technology, and services. Visitors can check out their next book, get a library card, access the internet, and get answers to questions.
Getting a library card is easy and empowering. For students, it’s a key to academic success. For adults, it’s a gateway to lifelong learning. For everyone, it’s a smart way to stay connected to your community. CDL cards are available to everyone who lives and/or works in the district, as well as to all of our school of choice students.
Anyone who signs up for their very first CDL card in September will be entered into a drawing to win a Serendipity Books gift card. Please remember that minors who sign up for a library card must be able to sign their name and have a parent or guardian sign their application. Stop by the Check Out Desk for an application or sign up online at www.chelseadistrictlibrary.org.
