The Chelsea Police Department has received several reports about phone scams that involve demands for money due to late tax payments from people claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The caller will often then threaten the subject with arrest, job loss, and prison time if the payments aren’t made immediately according to the police alert.
These scams are bogus as the IRS will always notify you in writing first of any tax problems.
