Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth’s contract extended for 5 years

Ed-TothThe Chelsea City Council unanimously approved a request for a 5-year extension for Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth‘s contract on Nov. 3.

The new contract begins Dec. 9 and end on Dec. 9, 2019.

“It’s been my pleasure to serve here,” Toth told the City Council.

He said people often ask him why he doesn’t go to a bigger place and he said that this department has a “44-percent closure rate” on its cases, “which is unique and pretty good.”

“I can’t thank the community enough for the help it provides the department,” he said. “The police can’t do it alone.”

“The chief has been with us for 8 years on Devil’s Night,” said City Manager John Hanifan, who added that Toth is the only city employee who is provided with a car.

Council Member Melissa Johnson said that “People are very pleased with the follow up with investigations.”
