Chelsea Softball Wins Third Straight District Championship

On Saturday June 4, the Chelsea softball team played in the District Tournament at Adrian High School.

In the first semi-final game Chelsea played Tecumseh. The game remained close through the first 3 innings. In the fourth inning, Amelia Robinson’s hustle caused Tecumseh to make a 2-out error, which eventually led to the Bulldogs scoring 6 unearned runs. Mya Purdy drove in 2 with a triple following a Zoey Monica single. Jenna Ouellete’s single drove in Purdy and after a single by Bekah Zachrich, Megan Mccalla crushed a 3-run home run over the centerfield fence to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Bulldogs used 2 walks, 3 singles and a Tecumseh error to score 5 runs to close out the game. 

Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by senior Zoey Monica who went 3 for 3 and Jenna Ouellette who went 2 for 2.

Emilee Underwood racked up her 19th win of the season going all 5 innings, surrendering 1 run and 2 hits while striking out 9 in the contest.

In the final game of the day, Chelsea played Pinckney for the district championship. In the second inning, Chelsea took advantage of a walk, a single by Emilee Underwood and an error to score its first run of the game.  In the third inning, Megan McCalla crushed a two-out home run to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead, after three innings.

In the fourth inning, after singles by Maggie Olaveson and Amelia Robinson, Mya Purdy hit a 2-out triple to make the score 4-0. In the fifth, one-out singles by Megan McCalla, Andi Evers and Maggie Olaveson loaded the bases.

Emilee Underwood followed with a single to right field scoring  2 runs and bulldogs went on to win the game 6-0.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Megan McCalla, Maggie Olaveson and Emilee Underwood who all went 2 for 3 on the day. 

Emilee Underwood chalked up her 20th win of the season, pitching a 3-hit shutout, striking out 6.

The win gives the bulldogs their 3rd district championship in as many seasons.

The Bulldogs will play two regular season games this week, Tuesday in Allen Park and Wednesday at home vs South Lyon which is a 4 pm start.  South Lyon and Allen Park are currently ranked 1 and 2 in division 1. 

Chelsea will then play Ionia on Saturday at 10am in the regional semifinal at the Chelsea softball facility.
