Chelsea swim and dive team has busy week

The Chelsea Swim and Dive team hosted the Milan Big Reds at Cameron Pool on Jan. 15 and followed it up by hosting SEC White rival Dexter on Jan. 17.

Milan 116, Chelsea 65
The Bulldogs fell to Milan by a score of 116-65 and Dexter by a final of 120-61.  The Bulldogs are 1-2 in White Division action.

Against the Big Reds on Tuesday, the 200 freestyle relay team of Wes Wickens, Parker Olk, Zander Hartsuff and Gabe Gasbarre posted a Division 3 state qualifying time of 1:33.63.

The 200 medley relay narrowly missed a state cut with the team of Olk, Wickens, Deaglan Krause, and Gasbarre finishing second with a 1:47.36.  Other key performances against Milan included Hartsuff posting a 2:03.56 in the 200 freestyle, Wickens finishing in 21.75 in the 50 freestyle and 49.35 in the 100 freestyle.

The Bulldog divers also posted a first and second place finish, with Olk scoring 165.60 points and Hartsuff scoring 155.45 points.

Dexter 120, Chelsea 61
On Thursday against the Dreadnaughts, the Bulldogs again saw some improved swims and key performances.

The 200 medley relay earned their Division 3 state cut that they missed on Tuesday.

The team of Olk, Wickens, Krause, and Hartsuff touched second, but with a final time of 1:46.23.  The 200 freestyle saw Gasbarre earn third place in a 2:01.30, and Landen Collins fourth, finishing in 2:02.66.

Hartsuff posted a 24.02 in the 50 freestyle, while Wickens topped his season best in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 48.29.

Krause was the lone representative in the 100 butterfly for the Bulldogs, and he earned a third place finish with a time of 1:04.28.

The Bulldogs will next travel to Dundee on Jan. 22 for a double-dual with Bedford before returning home to Cameron Pool for a home crossover meet with SEC Red foe Monroe at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24.
