Chelsea Update focus on business: UMRC

The United Methodist Retirement Communities (UMRC) offers an array of lifestyle options and has been offering care for older adults for more than a century.

“UMRC’s historic, flagship campus, Chelsea Retirement Community (CRC), located on West Middle Street (in Chelsea), serves over 1,000 older adults each year,” said Stacey Olson, UMRC director of public relations. “From Independent Living apartments and cottages, to Glazier Commons Assisted Living and Towsley Village Memory Care Center, to Kresge Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, CRC offers a continuum of care that is second to none.”

UMRC has a total of eight campuses in 12 counties and serves more than 2,600 older adults in southeast Michigan. 

“Being a member of the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce allows us the opportunity to serve alongside other chamber members in support of making Chelsea the very best community it can be – a destination for multiple generations,” said Olson.

Olson says that the senior population is expected to double by 2030, which means that it is imperative for UMRC to grow and expand its continuum of care to serve more seniors. 

The President and CEO of UMRC is John Thorhauer, who has served in that position since 2006, and has more than 25 years of health facility, senior housing, and health service management experience.
