Friday, the Chelsea High School varsity lacrosse team hosted the Pinckney Pirates for the team’s first conference match of the season.

With the JV team off, coach Joe Koengeter called up six players from the JV squad to fill in for six of his starters who were out.

Chelsea started fast thanks to a 1st quarter hat trick by Junior Aidan Boote.  The second quarter was going well until a few defensive lapses that allowed the Pirates to score two goals within 30 seconds to make it 9-2 at halftime.

At halftime, the 7th/8th grade Beach Middle School team was introduced. Along with over 30 of its players and head coach Mikal Nelson and coach Ryan Ratliff.

Chelsea outscored the Pirates 5-2 in the 3rd quarter behind two goals each by sophomores Tyler Wallgren and Mitchell Sumner along with one by senior captain Cam Breining.

With the score 14-4 to start the 4th quarter, the Dogs outscored Pinckney to close out their first conference win 17-5 and even the team’s overall record to 3-3.

With two freshmen starting alongside him, senior captain Jake Seitz anchored the defense.
