Chelsea varsity volleyball goes undefeated, brings home gold from Skyline Invitational

The Chelsea varsity volleyball team went 6-0 on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Skyline Invitational, improving their record to 24-5-1.

Currently, the team is ranked No 4 in Class B.

This is the second tournament that the team was undefeated, as they won the Mt. Morris tournament on Sept. 6.

Emma Hess: 80 kills,, 9 aces, 52 digs
Rylee Rosentreter: 62 kills, 11 aces, 66 digs
Kylie Frank: 71 digs
Morgan Matusik: 20 kills, 8 blocks, 10 aces
Taylor King: 14 kills, 7 blocks
Mary Kelleher:  178 assists 45 digs

“The team played well in many facets,” said Coach Laura Cleveland. “They served at 93 percent, with multiple aces from a variety of players.”

In addition, the coach said, “The team’s defense has been really good in blocking and floor defense.  Players are reading well and getting in good positions to dig balls so that our offense can attack. “

Cleveland said, “The hitters have been very aggressive and working to keep pressure on our opponents with up tempo hits and Mary Kelleher has been making really good choices in distributing the ball.”

The coach said, “The leadership on the team has helped the team to stay very focused and to be ready to play. They really have the desire to play well and excel as a group.”
