After 50+ years as a pharmacist, Cheryl A. Terpstra, formerly of Chelsea, is retiring.
A native of Kalamazoo, she attended the University of Michigan School of Pharmacy RPH 1971 and PharmD in 1974, graduating with high honors.
She married Paul Terpstra, also a native of Kalamazoo, and a Hope College graduate, who was teaching English/Psychology at Chelsea High School. Together, they raised their children, Mike and Ann, in Chelsea.
Cheryl was dedicated to the concept of community pharmacies. She worked predominantly for Dan Murphy, who owned Chelsea Drug Store. He became her mentor, teaching her that business was about people, from the customers, to the employees, and the delivery people.
Murphy often said that Cheryl was the best pharmacist that he ever worked with. Cheryl was highly respected in the Chelsea community. She kept up with the latest drug research and worked with customers and their physicians to get the best treatment options for them.
When Murphy bought the Grass Lake Pharmacy, he asked Cheryl to manage the store. She was highly respected in the Grass Lake community and managed the store until she and Paul relocated back to Kalamazoo in 2006.
Cheryl continued to work as manager of the Galesburg Pharmacy, as well as substituting in various pharmacies in the Kalamazoo area.
Congratulations on your retirement. You will be missed.
