Wherever you turned in downtown Chelsea Saturday, Feb. 8, chocolate was at your fingertips.

The 12th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza inspired numerous shoppers to visit downtown Chelsea on the weekend before Valentine’s Day.

From chocolate-dipped orange peels and jewelry to home decor and chocolate covered cherries, the chocolate choices and the sales were ubiquitous.

Local restaurants featured chocolate flavored beers and chocolate turtle brownies. The Common Grill, the Chelsea Are Chamber of Commerce’s newly named large business of the year, offered Chocolate Martinis.

“I knew about the Chocolate Extravaganza and the chocolate martini was an added bonus,” said Deborah Schaible, who came with husband David and other family members for lunch at the Common Grill.

On West Middle Street, Serendipity Books owner Michelle Tuplin said, “I’m such a chocaholic, and the Extravaganza brings a huge boost in business.”

Both local faces and visitors filled the streets. Folks came from Plymouth, Canton, Hartland and Whitmore Lake for the Chocolate Extravaganza experience.

At Set in Stone Jewelry at 105 1/2 South Main Street, owner Stephen Kolokithas showed shoppers the 10-karat yellow gold sunflower ring with the diamond center that he was raffling off.

“At every event, I try to offer something everyone will like,” said Kolokithas, who invited customer’s to sample his wife’s mint, caramel, and chocolate brownies.

Culture Creations had a store full of shoppers thanks to special sales on sterling silver earrings from Thailand and mini caramel cupcakes.

The Mykala Mortgage Planning Home Domes event at Palmer Commons with help from Dart Bank and Thompson’s Pizza was a big success and sold out. Families enjoyed time in the clear igloo heated home domes along with pizzas donated by Michelle Mykala at Thompson’s Pizza. Her husband, John Mykala, said that all donations from the day were going to Faith in Action to help with winter heating bills and to support the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce.

#Shopchelseamich, a team of more than 35 merchants and restaurants, made the Chocolate Extravaganza possible.
