A year ago, Scott Smith and his wife, Linda moved to the Chelsea area. What started as a plan for a vacation house became a full-time home for the couple from Cleveland.
Smith started his company, SG Funding, in 2016. It is an advisory firm, and he works with businesses in multiple states including Michigan that are having difficulty getting money from a traditional bank.
“Banks come to me and ask if I can help these companies with working capital,” said Smith. “I have more than a hundred private lenders that can provide financing until the companies can get capital. I help bridge the gap.”
Smith works with what he refers to as “alternative lenders” who offer different types of loans. The companies he works with range from manufacturing to service related.
Before starting SG Funding, Smith worked for an alternative lender.
“I was unable to provide the kinds of solutions I can now,” he said. “Now I can work with so many different companies and help them with all the money lenders I know.”
As far as any changes to the business, Smith says he joined the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce and plans to do a lot of networking.
“Because of my knowledge, experience, expertise, and connections that I have in the lending world, I want companies to consider working with SG Funding.”
