The economic effects of Covid 19 are being felt hard by businesses in Chelsea. Chelsea Update is talking to individual business owners in the area to see how they are coping.

How can we help your business or non-profit with a story? Please email [email protected] and let us know. We’re here to assist you.

Hi. We are John and Deanna Robbins.

In 2009, we opened Chelsea’s own water and fire disaster restoration company, Gateway Restoration. You may see our white vans and trucks driving around town.

In the last ten years, we have helped 258 Chelsea families with flooded basements, flooded kitchens and baths, fires and smoke damage, collapsed ceilings and all kinds of other disasters.

We have also helped another 1,900 clients in Washtenaw, Jackson, Lenawee, and Livingston counties. We primarily compete against large franchises.

Although we are considered “essential,” we are getting very few calls.

Bad things typically happen when people are not home. For example, if the line comes undone from your icemaker and you get water on the floor and you are home –  you see it, you shut off the water, and you clean it up.

But if you are not home, that slow trickle of water could flood your kitchen floor and possibly your whole basement.

Like everyone in the restoration industry, we have procedures and PPE to protect our clients and our team. And like all industries, we are re-engineering our processes in light of the new reality we are all in.

We are already very accustomed to taking measures to make sure that clients and their homes are safe. Our biggest new challenge has been making sure that our team members have enough hours and income to feed their families.

It is our hope that none of our local Chelsea families experience a loss like this, but we are hoping they remember us if they do.

The best way to reach Gateway is to call 734-645-5500 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, [email protected]www.gateway-restoration.com
