New City Manager Roy Atkinson was on the dais for his first official City Council meeting on July 5.
He said he was “super excited” to be in Chelsea and spent his first week meeting with department heads, learning about current and future projects, and profusely thanked Interim City Manager Amanda Garber for her six years of service to the city and her assistance during this first full week on the job last week.
Garber’s last day in her dual role as interim manager and Administrative Director in the city is July 8.
In council business:
- Marcia White was reappointed to the city’s planning commission for a term through June 30, 2025.
- The Community Public Safety Strategic Planning Group was created, which will include the new police chief, one city council member and five community members. (See additional information at the end of this story about the tasks of this group and documents to apply for a seat can be found under boards and commissions on the city’s website .)
- Midwestern Consulting’s proposal was approved for professional surveying and civil engineering for the design of the West Middle Street project from Wilkinson Street to M-52.
- All non-union salaried employees and part-time employees were given 3-percent raises effective July 1, 2022. This increase matches the union city’s employees’ contracts.
- Council approved the electric department’s budgeted requests to purchase its current leased ditch witch and digging tool, install an HVAC system at the Shepard Substation and purchase a HAPGUARD monitor, which will help the department monitor emissions.
In council reports, Mayor Jane Pacheco asked anyone interested in helping to plan Veterans Day events in Chelsea to please contact her. She said there will be a Tribute to the Fallen in Veterans Park on Veterans Day, Friday Nov. 11 and a new pancake breakfast is in the planning stages for Collins on Main on Saturday, Nov. 12.
