City of Chelsea parking regulations reminder

Chelsea City Ordinance No. 84 states parking on any city street is prohibited between the hours of 2-5 a.m.

The Chelsea Police Department is authorized to give permission to park, however, this is only allowed for up to 3 days without obtaining supervisory approval and cannot be authorized on a consistent basis.

Permission to park will not be authorized if inclement weather such as snowy or icy road conditions are expected.

Until the Police Department lobby opens up fully, permission to park will be given verbally over the phone. When the lobby fully opens back up, residents will be directed to go to the Police Department to obtain a  permit to park.

With winter approaching, overnight parking enforcement will begin to be more strictly enforced.

Please call the Chelsea Police Department at 734-475-9122 Ext. 3 with questions.

  1. Winter parking restrictions make sense but, Summer restrictions are unnecessary and need to be changed. Other nearby communities allow street parking between May and October. Living in a town with old houses, small limited driveways, It’s a real pain If you have visitors with a boat or RV. You want to have a party (back when we could, or can again). Guests are forced to drive after drinking, because their cars are on the street, They can’ t get a ride home without leaving their cars awaiting a ticket.
