About 20 community members, age 3 years and older, spent part of the first day of August sprucing up Timbertown and Pierce parks during Chelsea’s first Community Parks Clean Up Day.

“It’s a great way to kick off the Parks and Rec Master Plan effort,” said City Manager John Hanifan, who added there were people of all ages involved in the effort.

“It’s good, meaningful work,” he said.

City Council Member and Parks Committee Member Melissa Johnson said the day was planned as a way to get the community involved because “People love the parks.”

Included in the spruce up projects was scraping and painting the picnic tables, adding sand to the volleyball courts and painting some of the play equipment.

The Aug. 1 parks clean-up was the first of two planned this year, Johnson said, another day is expected to be planned for the fall.
